The Renaissance Man

Acclaimed playwright Akiva D. McClam was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to John James McClam and Dorothy Jean Clark. As a child, he overcame many obstacles including an absent father who was incarcerated and losing both parents within a year, by the age of 15. Akiva was raised by his grandmother, Mary Clark, who molded him into the pillar of strength friends affectionately call, The Renaissance Man.

Akiva turned obstacles into opportunities, achieving success as a High School athlete, writer, throughout his military career, and beyond. After earning his BS in Sociology from Bethune-Cookman University, he served 9 years in the US Air Force where he supported Campaign Enduring Freedom and Iraq Southern Watch and was medically retired in 2008. Akiva obtained his master’s degree in information systems from Strayer University and continued serving his country by supporting several federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, Defense Security Services, FBI (HQ), House of Representatives, and the Government Printing Office.

Akiva always maintained his passion for writing inspirational and thought-provoking stage plays and songs that bring joy, hope, and introduce people to Jesus Christ. In 2009, Akiva showcased his God-given talent for a church in Waldorf, MD where he wrote and directed his first play ever called, “My Christmas Story.” His robust imagination and natural ability to narrate led to Akiva writing and producing several plays including his number one hit stage play Cain and Abel, a story about his own life, which achieved such great success that he brought it back in 2013 and is still revered today.  Akiva also founded McClam Enterprise Productions (2010/2013) and wrote and produced Deep Cover (2015), Answering His Call Today (2016), Deep Cover: Let Your Light Shine in Dark Places (2018), and The Storm Has a Ministry Too (2020), all in the DC Metropolitan area.

In December 2024, Akiva will bring his work to his home state of Florida where he’s excited to showcase, I’ll be Home for Christmas: A Season of Transformation (2018, 2019, 2022), at The Kingdom Church (800 N Pine Hills Rd, Orlando, FL 32808). The Master of Ceremony is Carl Payne (Martin) and features actors like Tray Chaney (HBO The Wire, Saints and Sinners, and BMF). Akiva carefully selects the characters for his plays that bring his stories to life resulting in sold-out shows, standing ovations, and continued success. Several of the actors Akiva worked with continue their acting careers by starring in other successful productions including Being Mary Jane, The Haves and the Have Nots, Blue Bloods, and the Emmy nominated TV series House of Cards.

Akiva appeared on several radio shows and his plays raised over $10K for local churches. Akiva aims to turn his plays into movies and develop the Pipeline, a conference that connects directors, investors, writers, and artists creating opportunities to network and develop the entertainment industry. At the heart of it all is a grateful man of God, serving his purpose for his beloved community.
